The Been App (Source: here)
I caught the 6am flight from Paramaribo this morning and landed at at 5.45am at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. The flight time is 45 minutes, but the time zone changes, so I am now 15 minutes younger.
This arrival also feels special for a couple of other reasons.
First, I have now been to every country in South America! Guyana takes the tally of countries & territories I have visited to 183, or 68% of the world's total (266). Guyana is the my 152nd of 195 UN-recognised countries in the world.
Second, way back in 1990 I made a good friend called Alvin, when I was working as a boatbuilder in a small boatyard in Soper's Hole, Tortota, British Virgin Islands. Alvin was kind to me. He was a very skilled craftsman and a thoroughly open-minded and decent man. I am positively disposed towards Guyana to this day because of him.
I look forward to spending a few days in Guyana, where I will explore the bird life along the Mahaica River.
The End
